Whether it’s INBOUND or any other major industry event, these strategies can help you maximize your time and take advantage of the opportunities that conferences offer.

Thought leaders ask the right questions. Engaging speakers and fellow attendees with insightful queries sets you apart. It’s not just about absorbing information – it’s about influencing the conversation. Use questions to showcase your expertise and curiosity.

 Be Ready to Pivot

Sessions can fill up fast. Always have an alternative ready to keep your day productive, and be flexible. Some of our most valuable insights and connections came from spontaneous conversations or last-minute session changes. Pad your schedule to accommodate new opportunities, whether it’s a networking lunch or an impromptu breakout session. 

 LinkedIn Is Your Best Friend:

We can’t stress enough how critical it is to keep your LinkedIn profile up-to-date ahead of attending any event. At INBOUND 2024, we noticed a surge in profile views, highlighting the importance of ensuring yourLinkedIn profile reflects your most current role, skills, and projects.

  • Extra Tip: Use LinkedIn’s content-sharing features to post live insights from the event, share your takeaways, or post a thoughtful recap. This will engage your network and help you connect with new contacts who attended the event.

 Be Active on other Social Media Channels:

Use the conference hashtag (e.g., #INBOUND2024) to engage with others and expand your network beyond the physical event. Bonus: capture an on-site photo with other leaders and event branding in the background!

  • Extra Tip: When capturing photos with other leaders, be sure to ask their permission to post, and tag them and the event in your post copy.

 Follow Up After the Event:

The relationships you build at conferences can really pay off when you follow up. Send personalized messages to remind people of your conversations and potential collaborations. Reach out to speakers to compliment them on their session. If you don’t have an actual business card, use LinkedIn as your digital business card or stay connected via email.
